The Fort of Bregançon stands 35 meters above sea level, on the top of a rock close to Bormes-les-Mimosas. The rock was a stunning viewing point to watch the harbor activities of Toulon and Hyères. Therefore an early fortress was built. However, the present fort dates from the 11th century and it has undergone many changes over the following centuries. It was during the 20th century the fort acquired its fame when it became the summer residence of the Presidents of the French Republic. It only opened its doors to the public very recently in 2014. Apart from its historical interest, the fort offers beautiful views of the Var.
